The Clergy Support Memorial Church board was in full agreement in May 2024 to certify the Rev Joanne O’Connor to the office of Designated Minister with a ministry focused on supporting the unhoused people in her community. Rev Joanne’s deep commitment to serving others and her strong spiritual foundation make her an excellent candidate for the clergy. A Few Words About Joanne

Joanne is a passionate and committed individual with a long history of community service. She actively supports The Grind, a shelter in Pembroke, by collecting and donating items to assist those experiencing homelessness. One of her first acts as a minister was to apply for and receive a microgrant from CSMC on behalf of The Grind. Joanne has served as a volunteer at the Pembroke Curling Centre, where she has taken on roles such as chairperson of special events fundraising and instructor for the Learn to Curl program. She also volunteers her time to help seniors develop their computer skills through a literacy program.

Her personal life is marked by her strong family ties; she is one of nine siblings, has been married since 1975, and has two daughters and four granddaughters. Her desire to serve is fueled by her respect for others’ choices and her commitment to making special occasions memorable. She is a regular volunteer at her church, Our Lady of Lourdes, where she reads during mass and serves as a special minister, further highlighting her dedication to her faith and community.

Personal Growth

A lifelong learner, Joanne is someone who continually seeks new experiences. She has recently taken up playing pickleball, which has introduced her to new friendships and challenges. Joanne also reads books that inspire personal growth, such as “Discover Your Destiny” by Robin Sharma, and she actively applies the lessons she learns to her life. Her spiritual growth is evident in her involvement with the “ALPHA Christian Program” and her continued exploration of her faith through programs like “Wild Goose”. Joanne’s belief in the power of the Holy Spirit and her connection to her faith guide her actions and decisions.
