Pastoral Care – Then and Now

With a lifelong commitment to spiritual guidance and community care, Rev. Dr. Lorne F. Brock brings a compassionate and experienced presence to his ministry. His foundational Christian journey, rooted in the Presbyterian, Methodist, and United Church traditions, began actively in 1975. He was ordained as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church in Canada in 1978 and subsequently provided pulpit supply, pastoral visitation, and youth mentorship to congregations across Southern Ontario for many years. This deep, practical experience forms the bedrock of his understanding of faith in action.

For nearly a decade, he formally served as the Teens and Twenties Youth mentor and study leader at St. Paul’s United Church in Orillia, guiding young people in their spiritual journeys and participating in confirmation processes. Since 2015, he has been a Minister with Clergy Support Memorial Church, officiating weddings, leading baptisms and naming ceremonies, and presiding over funerals and celebrations of life. His service extends beyond ceremony to regular, compassionate visitation with the elderly, the grieving, and those in need within his community.

Today, his ministry is characterized by an open-hearted, inclusive philosophy. Moving beyond rigid doctrine, he draws from a broad spectrum of spiritual traditions to meet individuals wherever they are on their path. His approach is non-judgmental, focused on providing loving support, meaningful ritual, and a listening ear. Whether crafting a personalized ceremony, offering compassionate counselling, or simply providing companionship, his goal is to help others find hope, connection, and meaning in life’s most significant moments.

Closing Words

Lorne appreciates being part of the Clergy Support Memorial team. This path has enabled him to expand his outreach ministry experience while working independently.

His friends and colleagues provided three words that best define him –

Bridgebuilder – Consistently brings disparate worlds together: science and spirituality, corporate expertise and pastoral care, technical problems and human solutions. He builds pathways between knowledge and application, and between individuals and their goals or solace.

Empowering – Is the core thread of how he lives. His essence is in empowering and advising others through listening, teaching, and encouragement.

Resourceful – His approach is grounded and actionable. When solving problems of all types, he focuses on tangible solutions, using applicable knowledge and real-world support that make a direct difference.
