The Clergy Support Memorial Church Board was pleased to certify the Rev. April Luchies to the office of Appointed Designated Minister in December of 2015. She demonstrated very quickly to us her background gifted her with wisdom and shaped her current views on spirituality. She, her husband Stephane and their two boys live in Oshawa. We welcome her to our team of professional clergy. April is fluent in French and English.

Rev. April is a compassionate and dedicated individual whose commitment to community service and helping others is evident in every aspect of her life. As a Registered Nurse with extensive experience in pregnancies and delivery, she was a source of comfort and support to countless families during both joyful and challenging times. Her ability to provide care and guidance, even in the most difficult of circumstances, showcases a deep empathy and understanding of the human experience.

April’s journey into ministry began with personal experiences that highlighted her natural ability to lead and support others during significant life events. When her grandmother passed away, April was asked to preside over the funeral service, a powerful and moving experience that underscored her ability to bring people together in moments of grief and celebration. This pivotal moment, along with her continued dedication to supporting families in various capacities, has driven April to explore the path of becoming a member of our clergy.

What faith means to April

Rev. April’s spiritual and personal development has been a profound journey marked by introspection and a deep connection to the world around her. Despite not adhering to

organized religion, she firmly believes in a higher power and has witnessed the miracles of life and death in her role as a nurse. These experiences have shaped a unique worldview, where love, kindness, justice, mercy, and respect for all are the guiding principles.

Raised in the United Church and exposed to various religious beliefs through family and personal exploration, she has cultivated a broad and inclusive understanding of spirituality. Her journey has been one of seeking and finding comfort in the higher powers of the universe, regardless of formal religious structures. This open-minded and compassionate approach allows her to connect with individuals of diverse faiths and backgrounds, offering support and understanding in ways that are both meaningful and respectful.
